Privacy notice
Short, because we hold very little. The site sets no cookies, and the only form on it is the sign-up for our mailing list. We do count visits, and this explains exactly how.
Who we are
Sawbridgeworth Land Trust is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. We adopted our constitution on 4 September 2026 and applied to register with the Charity Commission for England and Wales in September 2026. That application is still being considered, so we do not have a charity number to quote yet. For data protection purposes the trust is the data controller. Anything to do with your data goes to info@sawbridgeworthlandtrust.com.
This website
The site sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Its one form is the mailing list sign-up, described below. There is no advertising on it and nothing that follows you to other websites.
We do count visits. Our host, Vercel, provides a privacy-focused analytics tool that tells us how many people came, which pages they read, roughly which country they were in, and what kind of device and browser they used. It uses no cookies. To recognise a repeat visit within the same day it builds a one-way hash out of your request – your IP address and browser details, mixed with a value that changes every day – and that hash is discarded within 24 hours. It cannot be turned back into you, and there is no profile of you anywhere.
We look at it for one reason: to know whether the site is doing its job, and which pages people actually read. If you would rather not be counted, any of the usual content blockers will stop it and the site will work exactly the same.
The other third party is Google Fonts: the typefaces load from Google’s servers, so your browser makes a request to them and they see your IP address. We are moving the fonts onto our own server to remove that.
Vercel also keeps standard server logs, as every web host does.
What we collect, and when
- If you email us: your name, your email address, and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it to reply to you, and nothing else.
- If you register interest in membership or giving: your email address, and your postcode if you send it. We use it to write to you once, when membership or online giving opens. We will not add you to anything else without asking.
We do not buy lists.
Our mailing list
If you sign up on this site, we collect your first name and email address, and we record that you ticked the box agreeing to hear from us. We use them to send you news about the trust – membership opening, donations opening, the land we are working to buy – and for nothing else. Your consent is the legal basis for it.
The list is kept by Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, based in France), which sends our emails for us and stores the list in the European Union. When you press the button, your details go straight from your browser to Brevo; no Brevo code runs on this site and it sets no cookies here. Brevo records whether each email is delivered and opened and which links in it are clicked, which is how we can tell whether our news is being read.
Every email has an unsubscribe link. Use it, or write to us, and you come off the list straight away. We keep your details for as long as you are subscribed and remove them when you leave.
When membership opens
Once the charity is registered and membership opens we will have to keep a register of members – the law requires it of every Charitable Incorporated Organisation – and we will hold payment records for subscriptions and donations. We will update this notice, naming the services we use, before any of that starts. Card details would be handled by a payment provider and would never reach us.
How long we keep it
Emails are deleted once the matter they concern is finished, unless you have asked to hear from us again. Financial and membership records, when they exist, are kept for as long as charity and tax law require.
Who we share it with
Nothing you email us goes anywhere else. The only suppliers involved are Vercel, which hosts the site and provides the visit counts described above, Google, which serves the fonts, and Brevo, which keeps our mailing list and sends our emails. If that list grows – a payment provider, our bank, or HMRC for Gift Aid – this notice will say so first. We do not sell or swap our lists, and we never will.
Your rights
You can ask to see what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or tell us to stop emailing you, at any time. Write to info@sawbridgeworthlandtrust.com and we will act on it within a month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this notice
First published in September 2026. Revised on 23 September 2026 to add the mailing list and name Brevo. We will date any future revision here.
